The key to safe operation is learning how to operate your vessel properly, as well as, learning the vessel’s capabilities and restrictions. With our “hands-on” approach, you can understand what is happening in each circumstance by witnessing it. You may ask questions directly to the instructor and receive an accurate response. You will learn how to launch, operate, and retrieve your vessel by doing it yourself with instruction from a U.S. Coast Guard licensed captain. Online boater’s safety courses are available and are required in most states. They provide much needed information about safe navigation and the “do’s and don’ts” while underway. However, what they do not provide is the ability to understand what a real time situation may be like. You can never assume that another vessel’s operator knows exactly what to do in a close quarter or passing situation. Evasive maneuvers may be necessary, and you should know what to expect and how to execute them in a safe manner.
Gain confidence in operating your vessel. Seeing and understanding how the vessel is going to react in different scenarios will allow you to learn how to anticipate and execute the needed action. Approaching docks, piers or other vessels requires anticipation of what the vessel is going to do, and the only way to learn this, is to practice and execute. We will demonstrate approach techniques and you will be able to decide what the easiest and most efficient way for you to land your vessel.
